GW staff in academic dress during 2018 Commencement ceremony

Faculty & Staff

Members of the faculty are invited to march in the procession at Commencement on the National Mall on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

Members of the faculty, who would like to participate in Commencement on the National Mall, please register by Thursday, May 7, 2020. You must provide your own regalia for the event.

If you have any questions, please contact University Events at 202-994-7129 or [email protected].

Custom Regalia

Faculty who are participating in the commencement ceremonies may need to wear regalia. If you wish to purchase custom regalia appropriate to your alma mater, it takes approximately six weeks from the time of purchase for manufacturing and shipping. We strongly recommend that you order by March 24th.  Many faculty & staff choose to rent non-school-specific regalia which does not have the long lead time.

If you are renting faculty regalia every year, you could save time and money by purchasing your own custom regalia.  A representative from Herff Jones will be in the GW Campus Store between 10 am and 5 pm on Thursday, December 12th. Herff Jones is able to provide regalia for most colleges and universities

  • Order regalia online  (direct ship to home)

Regalia Rental

Faculty can rent non-school-specific regalia.  Shipping charges are $25 until midnight on Friday, April 3rd.  Orders must be placed by midnight on Friday, April 3rd.   Follow the on-screen prompts to order your alma mater’s regalia.

  • Order regalia online (direct ship to home or on-campus pick-up)
  • GW Campus Store, Marvin Center Lower Level, May 7-16.

Online rental orders will be available for pick-up from the GW Campus Store, Marvin Center Lower Level, May 7-16.

Reimbursements for Faculty Regalia

If you’re a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member, you are eligible to receive up to a $200 reimbursement toward your academic regalia purchase.

Submit your reimbursement by Friday, May 29, 2020, through iBuy. Review these instructions (PDF) to process your reimbursements. If you have any questions, please contact Shelly Shearer at [email protected].
