is Monumental Celebration?
Monumental Celebration is the business attire commencement eve gala for graduates of The George Washington University.  All 2008 graduates, their family and friends along with GW faculty and staff are invited!  Saturday, May 17, 2008, at historic Union Station, located at 50 Massachusetts Avenue NE, from 8:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m..

How much are tickets, and how do I buy them?
Tickets, $35 for graduates and $40 each for friends and family, may be purchased on-site using ONLY cash or check.

What entertainment and food will be at the Monumental Celebration?
Monumental Celebration features a live dance band, jazz quartet, caricature and balloon artists, and more.

Nonalcoholic beverages and a sumptuous dessert spread is included. A cash bar will be provided for guests who are 21 years or older.  Please bring appropriate identification to receive a special bracelet that will allow you to patronize the cash bar.

How will I know my ticket purchase was received?
The graduate will receive a confirmation e-mail that lists the number of tickets purchased.  If any information is incorrect or the graduate does not receive an email within one week, please email monumental@gwu.edu or call (202) 994-1600.

Are tickets returnable?
No, all ticket sales are final. 

When and where can I pick up my tickets?
Tickets can be claimed by printing your e-mail confirmation and bringing it, along with a picture ID to the 5th floor of Rice Hall (2121 Eye Street NW) from Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 16, 2008, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Tickets that are not claimed by Friday, May 16 will be held at will call at the entrance of Union Station at 8:30 p.m.   We are unable to mail tickets.

Can someone else claim tickets for me?
Only family members or the graduate listed on the order can claim tickets.  If you are unable to pick up your tickets ahead of time, they will be available at will call at Union Station.

What is the best form of transportation to Union Station?

  • By taxi! Direct drivers to Union Station.
  • By Metro!  From campus, take the Orange and Blue Line to Metro Center, transfer to the Red Line in the direction of Glenmont. Exit at Union Station Metro. 
  • By Car!
  • Commercial parking is also available at Union Station at rates comparable to downtown Washington, DC parking garages.

What should I wear to Monumental Celebration?
Monumental Celebration is a business attire event. Men wear suits and ladies generally wear suits or dresses.
