Spring Commencement in the 192nd year of the George Washington University will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. on the National Mall, between 7th and 14th Streets, NW, before an audience of some 5,000 graduates and their 20,000 parents, family members and friends. Award-winning actor, activist and alumna, Kerry Washington (B.A. '98), will be the commencement speaker and will receive an honorary degree. International education advocate Harriet Mayor Fulbright (M.F.A. '75) and 23rd Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen (M.P.A. '86), also will receive honorary degrees. Academic regalia is required at this event. 

 

Members of the faculty are invited to participate in Commencement Weekend activities. 
 

Online registration is required to attend the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, scheduled on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center and University Commencement, scheduled on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. on the National Mall, between 7th and 14th streets. Please register no later than Friday, May 10.

 

Faculty can purchase regalia online by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 25.  After April 25, the only option is renting regalia from the GW Bookstore.

 

Faculty can rent regalia from the GW Bookstore from Tuesday, May 14 to Saturday, May 18. Emergency rentals only on Sunday, May 19.

 

Full-time tenure or tenure-track faculty are eligible to receive up to a $200.00 reimbursement towards their academic regalia purchase. Reimbursements are now processed through the new GW I-Buy Expense Reporting System (Concur). Faculty members who are unfamiliar with this system should contact Mary Foster or Daniel MacGregor and copy University Events with their invoice or receipt readily available. Mary or Daniel will provide training on the systems use and help you file a reimbursement report for this purpose. All invoices and receipts must be received on or before Friday, May 24, 2013. If you have not purchased regalia or rented it online via Herff Jones, you can rent it at the GW Bookstore from Tuesday, May 14 to Saturday, May 18.   Emergency rentals only on Sunday, May 19.  Please see the bookstore hours of operations below.
